Workshop on safety & security of Chinese citizens hosted in Guyana

The Chinese Embassy in Guyana and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) co-organized a workshop on safety and security for Chinese enterprises and communities.

The event, held on April 6 in Georgetown, was led by Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan and Deputy Commissioner (Operations) of the GPF, Ravindradat Budhram.

Budhram introduced safety and security tips and answered questions raised by the participants, many of them, Chinese businessmen and women.

This workshop stemmed from an earlier meeting held between Ambassador Guo, Guyana’s Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, and other senior officers of the GPF on March 27.

During a press briefing at the embassy, the diplomat raised concerns about instances of crimes being committed against Chinese nationals in the country.

A Chinese supermarket owner was recently murdered, and there have been a few instances where Chinese businesses have been robbed.

During her engagement with the top brass of the GPF, Ambassador Guo had lobbied for them to do more to protect Chinese nationals in Guyana.
