A senior U.S. administration official who spoke to reporters said Sullivan will cover a wide range of topics, including tensions in the South China Sea and North Korea, among others.
Although this will mark the first visit to China by a national security adviser from the United States since 2016, talks between Sullivan and Wang have been frequent. Their last meeting took place in Bangkok in January.
Sullivan’s visit to China comes just before the November 5 U.S. presidential election, with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris up against former President Donald Trump.
