Trinidad and Tobago’s MovieTowne recently hosted a China Film Festival to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago between April 11-14, 2024.

Speaking at the launch ceremony for the festival, China's Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador Fang Qiu, said the films portray a unique insight into the lives of Chinese people, presented by some of China's leading filmmakers.

T&T’s Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr Amery Browne, said he appreciated China's contribution to the film industry through actors such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and urged Trinidadians to seize the opportunity to gain insights into different cultures.

Attendees were treated to the scifi blockbuster Wandering Earth 2, produced by Liu Cixin, who also wrote the short story which inspired the film.

Also present at the launch was President of the Senate Nigel de Freitas, Minister of Social Development and Family Services Donna Cox, Minister in the Ministry of Finance Allyson West, and stakeholders from China's film industry.
