Chinese folk artist awarded by T&T gov't

Trinidadian entrepreneur and master Chinese folk artist, Maria Lee has been recognised for her contributions to the growth and transformation of Chinese Folk Art in the twin island republic.

Lee was among two other cultural icons in that country that were honoured in a special at ceremony at Queens Hall, Port of Spain this past week.

Lee has been sharing her knowledge of Chinese Folk Art with Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean for decades.

She started off her journey in Zhongshan, Canton, China where she was involved in Chinese opera and performance. In 1998 she co-founded the Chinese Arts and Culture Studies Society.

Lee is dedicated to the transmission of the richness of Chinese arts and culture and demonstrates how the Chinese and Trinidadian cultures have merged and complimented each other over the years.
