Suriname honours outgoing Chinese ambassador

Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Suriname, H.E. Han Jing, has been presented with a national award of Suriname, the Grand Officer in the Order of Honour of the Palm.


The award is given to Surinamese civilians, military personnel, and distinguished foreign persons. A few foreign diplomats, including those from the Netherlands, have been bestowed with this award.


Surinamese President Chandrikapersad Santokhi decorated Ambassador Han with the national award on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Presidential Palace in Suriname.

He said the award was presented to the Chinese diplomat as a sign of appreciation and thanks for the special merits. On that occasion, Santokhi acknowledged the outgoing diplomat and highlighted some of his achievements.


Ambassador Han's term in Suriname began on August 23, 2021, with the presentation of his credentials. In recent years, the historical relations between Suriname and China have been strongly strengthened.


Some highlights were the special commemoration of 170 years of Chinese immigration in Suriname and Santokhi's successful state visit to China in April this year.

The strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries has been strengthened through this state visit. The Surinamese President said Ambassador Han has made a significant contribution to this.


For his proven services in promoting the friendly relationship between Suriname and China, he decorated the Ambassador on behalf of the government and the people of Suriname as a Grand Officer in the Order of Honour of the Palm. He also wished Ambassador Han good health and success in his career.
