Shandong Province cultural event held in The Bahamas

A cultural event showcasing China's second-most populous province, Shandong, which is also the birthplace of influential cultural figure Confucius, was recently hosted in The Bahamas.

During the event in Nassau, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, Yan Jiarong, introduced Confucianism to the guests and demonstrated traditional Chinese culture.

The Chinese diplomat stressed the global significance of the Global Civilisation Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, which seeks to promote exchanges and mutual learning among different civilisations.

She said the initiative also aims to enhance mutual understanding and affinity among people of all countries, to forge consensus on cooperation in the international community, and to serve well for the friendship between China and the Bahamas.

China is still prepared, according to Ambassador Jiarong, to expand bilateral ties and increase people-to-people exchanges in order to advance new frontiers in a number of areas with partners from all walks of life in The Bahamas.

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial People's Congress and head of the visiting Shandong delegation, Sun Licheng, was also present for the event.

Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas, Jamahl Strachan; President of The Bahamas-China Friendship Association, Donnovan Moxey; and representatives of culture, art, tourism industries, and media of both countries also attended.
