Five Guyanese awarded Chinese scholarships

Scholarships from the Chinese government and the Jiangsu Provincial government have been given to five Guyanese.

At an official ceremony held recently at the embassy in Georgetown, Counsellor Li Hanqing awarded the scholarships to the beneficiaries.

The subjects the students will be studying include surgery, law, intelligent manufacturing and control, mechanical engineering, international economics and trade, science of the environment and protection of natural resources.

Counsellor Li stated that within the context of the human resources cooperation between China and Guyana, China consistently provides support for the talent cultivation program in the key sectors of Guyana's social and economic development.

Following the official presentation, the Chinese official urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity, spend their time wisely, and contribute positively to Guyana's high-quality growth and the relationship between China and Guyana.

The recipients of the student body responded by expressing gratitude to the Chinese government for the opportunity to pursue higher education.

They vowed to put in a lot of study time, absorb knowledge from China's development experience, gain a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, and work towards serving as ambassadors of friendship between China and Guyana.
