The talks between the ambassador and the prime minister emphasised the close relationship that has grown over the course of two decades of friendship, cooperation, and trust between Dominica and China. The two countries have collaborated in a number of areas since establishing diplomatic ties in 2004, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.

To commemorate 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Prime Minister Skerrit led a team to the People's Republic of China in March as a show of solidarity. The visit emphasised the long-standing alliance and common goal of advancing bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
