Delegation from Jiangsu Province, China, visits Guyana
Vice Governor Zhao Yan led a Friendship Delegation from Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China, visited Guyana from October 29 to 30. Guo Haiyan, the Chinese ambassador to Guyana, was present at the delegation's principal events in Guyana.
Guyana's Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo met with the delegation. He thanked the Chinese side for its long-term assistance to Guyana's development, especially the medical teams dispatched by Jiangsu for aid. He stated that the Guyanese side firmly adheres to the One China principle and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Guyana.
The two sides also conducted discussions on strengthening personnel exchanges, project cooperation, education and training, etc.
Vice Governor Zhao Yan held talks with Guyana's Minister of Health, Frank Anthony, and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening the Training of Health Professionals and the donation of medical supplies between the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission and the Guyana Ministry of Health.
As part of the agreement, a generous donation of medical equipment worth $320,000 will directly benefit GPHC. This contribution highlights Jiangsu Province's continued commitment to increasing medical resources in Guyana.
The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Robbie Rambarran, the chief executive officer of GPHC, his management team, and members of the 20th Chinese medical team currently working at GPHC on Wednesday, October 30.
After the signing ceremony, the delegation was led on a tour of key departments within GPHC, including the eye clinic, acupuncture clinic (Traditional Chinese Medicine Center), and minimally invasive center. In these areas, Chinese medical experts and Guyanese medical professionals work together, providing patients with a valuable combination of traditional and modern medical expertise.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Navindranauth Rambaran, the director of medical and professional services at GPHC, expressed his gratitude to Vice Governor Zhao Yan and his team for their unwavering support.
The delegation also donated books to the China Corner of the University of Guyana Library and inspected the free medical consultations held by the medical teams sent to assist Guyana for overseas Chinese and enterprises in Guyana at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.
