Chinese gov't awards grants to Dominica students

The Chinese government has presented education grants of US$1,000 to 22 students at Dominica State College to pursue studies in various fields.


During the handover ceremony on Thursday, November 9, Dominica’s Education Minister, Octavia Alfred, extended gratitude to the Chinese government for the grants.


The education minister said China is not only contributing to improving the physical infrastructure of educational institutions on the island but also investing in the development of individuals.


Alfred spoke about her government’s commitment to creating a path to ensure accessibility to tertiary education for all, urging the students to work hard during their course of study.

Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Lin Xianjiang and Dominica’s Education Minister, Octavia Alfred, along with the education grant recipients.


Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Lin Xianjiang said China recognises the importance of education to the country’s future development and pledges its continued support in this area.


Acknowledging the almost two-decade-long friendship between the two nations, Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his satisfaction with China’s swift response to the government’s plea for student assistance.


The ceremony served as a powerful testament to the shared commitment of both governments to education, encapsulating the profound friendship between Dominica and China in the celebration of knowledge and opportunity.
