Chinese Embassy funds playpark in Guyana

The Chinese Embassy in Guyana funded the construction of a brand new playpark in West Canje, Berbice, to the tune of US$30,000, which was officially opened on Sunday, April 10.

Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, said that China has been actively supporting Guyana’s development, including the development of the region where the park is situated. “I am proud that the embassy donated to the cause; although it is not large, it represents the profound friendship between Chinese and Guyanese people,” she said.

The Chinese diplomat also promised to work towards strengthening trade and cultural exchanges to bring the friendship between the two countries to a higher level.

Chairman of the Region, David Armogan, thanked the Chinese Embassy for helping to establish the recreational facility which will serve both children and adults. "Today, after many years, the children of this community will have a park where they can come and play, enjoy themselves, and have fun with each other,” he added.

The Lochaber Play Park is outfitted with swings and slides and a pavilion, among other amenities.

The Chinese Embassy has also pledged financial support towards transforming Joe Vieira Park, located on the West Coast of Demerara, in Region 3 in Guyana.

In 2023, the embassy also built a pavilion at the Lamaha Street corridor in the country’s capital, Georgetown, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Guyana and China.
