Chinese Embassy donates books to University of Guyana

The Chinese Embassy in Guyana has donated a quantity of books to the University of Guyana (UG) at a ceremony on Friday, November 24.


The books, which cover various aspects of ancient and modern China, range from history, culture, economy, science and technology, arts, etc.


Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan presented the books, which were received by the Vice-Chancellor of UG, Prof. Paloma Mohamed-Martin.

She said, “Students would obtain a better understanding of China.”


The Chinese diplomat said that cultural exchanges had an important role to play in developing bilateral relations between China and Guyana.

Prof. Mohamed-Martin expressed gratitude to the embassy for the donation and said she hopes that it will be fully utilised by the student population.


The Confucius Institute was established at UG with support from Dalian University of Foreign Languages in 2014.


The Confucius Institute at UG provides a bridge for cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Guyana. It currently offers several courses in language and art, among others.
