Chinese Cultural Park party hosted in Jamaica

A Chinese Cultural Garden Tour was organised by the Jamaican Embassy on September 14, 2024, at the Chinese Park of the Jamaica Hope Park.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports of Jamaica, Denzil Thorpe, delivered remarks at the event and was joined by Chinese Ambassador Chen Daojiang.

Over 600 attendees from all backgrounds were there.

Cultural exchanges and collaboration have traditionally played a significant role in China-Jamaica relations, according to Ambassador Chen. He said the Chinese landed in Jamaica 170 years ago this year.

“It is my desire that everyone can serve as a conduit for cultural interactions between the peoples of China and Jamaica, thereby facilitating mutual understanding between them," Thorpe added.

The minister stated his government's commitment to strengthen ties with China and work together to improve civilisation exchanges and mutual learning between the two nations.

He also used the opportunity to express his appreciation for China's significant efforts to foster cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Hope Park Chinese Garden is the first typical Chinese garden in the Caribbean.

The guests enjoyed special performances such as lion dance, martial arts, Tai Chi, cheongsam catwalk, Chinese musical instruments, etc., and appreciated the charm of traditional handicrafts, calligraphy, food and other Chinese culture. The scene was crowded and lively, and the guests were full of interest and linger.
