Chinese officials congratulate athletes on their success at Olympics

The Olympic delegation from China received congratulations from the country's senior authorities on Sunday for their achievements and good sportsmanship during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

"You have achieved success for our nation and people, and we sincerely thank and congrats you," said the State Council, China's cabinet, and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in a joint statement.

China achieved a record-breaking feat at the international Olympic Games, taking home 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals, good for second place in the overall medal table at Paris 2024.

"You have vigorously promoted the Chinese sports spirit and the Olympic spirit, striving to win medals not only for your athletic performance but also for your moral integrity, sportsmanship, and clean competition," the message stated.

"You have actively practiced the Olympic motto of 'Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together,' engaging in fair competition and friendly exchanges with athletes from around the world. In doing so, you have enhanced your skills, deepened friendship, and demonstrated China's strength, spirit, and image to the world, spreading the voice and values of China.

"Your outstanding achievements and performances have further ignited the patriotism of Chinese people both at home and abroad, uplifted the national spirit, and united the people towards progress," added the message.

Athletes were urged by the State Council and the CPC Central Committee to remain committed to helping China develop into a powerful sports nation, to never give up on their ambitions to excel in competitive sports, and to help realise China's modernisation and great national renewal.
