China training 45 health workers in Guyana

A training curriculum in tropical chronic disease research is being undertaken by 45 healthcare providers from Guyana to improve their ability to treat chronic illnesses.

According to a press statement from the Ministry of Health, the People's Republic of China's Ministry of Commerce is sponsoring this programme in collaboration with Southern Medical University.

The training sessions, which will take a hybrid approach, started on May 10 and will end on May 31, 2024.

Guo Haiyan, the Chinese ambassador to Guyana, expressed gratitude to the Southern University for making the programme possible. The training is one of five that the Chinese government will offer, according to the ambassador.

Dr. Frank Anthony, Guyana’s Minister of Health, said that the course provides chances for exchange between Guyana and China.

He continued by saying that China is at the forefront of medical research, with several of its studies being among the best in the world.

The relationship between Guyana and China has deepened in various sectors over the years, especially in health.
