China to build 'new electricity system' for green growth, energy security

China unveiled an action plan on Tuesday to build a "new electricity system" as part of the country's efforts to pursue green development and ensure energy security.

The plan, jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Energy Administration and the National Data Administration, outlines steps to be taken in nine areas between 2024 and 2027.

Chinese authorities will work to increase the transmission of clean electricity through the grid, upgrade coal-fired power plants and expand charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The plan also specifies measures aimed at ensuring the stable operation of China's electricity system and boosting the development of the power distribution network.
