China’s Hunan Province Governor leads delegation to The Bahamas

Hunan governor Mao Weiming led a delegation to the Bahamas on April 23 and 24, 2024, implementing Chinese President Xi Jinping's thoughts on diplomacy.


Governor Mao met with dignitaries of the country, signed the friendship-city agreement, and inspected projects and enterprises, striving to fully promote China-Bahamas relations.


On April 23, Governor Mao met with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis, attended the "Brightness Action,"  and visited the Princess Margaret Hospital in the Bahamas.


The project was launched in 2015 and brought doctors from Hunan Province who provided free operation services for over 200 Bahamian cataract patients.


On that same day, Governor Mao met with the Minister for Grand Bahama Island of the Bahamas, Ginger Moxey, and signed the Friendship-City Agreement.


The next day, he inspected Hunan-aided agricultural projects in the Bahamas and was present for the donation of agricultural machinery to the Bahamas.

Governor Mao also attended the Hunan-Bahamas Education Cooperation and Exchange Meeting and delivered a speech at the University of the Bahamas.


The top Chinese official also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Central South University and the University of the Bahamas.


Qu Hai, secretary general of the provincial government, accompanied him on the tour. Relevant, responsible diplomats at the Chinese Embassy in the Bahamas attended.


Two years ago, a Letter of Intent for the Establishment of a Sister Province between Hunan Province and Grand Bahama on the Establishment of Sister Province/Island Relations was signed.


In addition to that, two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on agricultural cooperation and medical equipment donations were also signed by the two sides.


Since then, Hunan Province has contributed to the establishment of greenhouses and the donation of agricultural equipment to assist with our food resilience plans, among others.


China and the Bahamas established diplomatic relations on May 23, 1997.


The Bahamas has continued to express its commitment to the One-China policy and has encouraged continued dialogue and support in mutual areas of interest both bilaterally and multilaterally.
