China provides partial funding for bypass road project in Grenada
Chinese Ambassador to Grenada, Wei Hongtian, recently attended the sod-turning ceremony for a major construction project in Sauteurs, St. Patrick.
The project that seeks to alleviate traffic congestion in the town has received partial financing of $110,000 (Eastern Caribbean Dollars) from China.
Ambassador Wei handed over the check to the country’s minister for finance and MP for St. Patrick East, Hon. Dennis Cornwall.
Grenada’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for St. Patrick West, Hon. Joseph Andall, was also in attendance during the handover ceremony.
Both government officials thanked the Chinese Embassy for the funds and donation to the parish and said they are confident that it would be helpful for the local people.
The project entails constructing a 1,556-foot concrete bypass route to link Marli to McNellie Alley. This will involve building retaining walls, box drains and slipper drains.
The project is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
The Chinese Embassy also donated electronic devices to McDonald College and signed the agreement on the establishment of a friendly cooperative relationship between the City of Ningbo, China, and the Parish of St. Patrick.
Ambassador Wei briefed the audience on the cooperation outcomes between the Chinese side and St. Patrick and looked forward to more fruitful results in the future.
