China donates US$100,000 to Guyana's Civil Defense Commission

China has generously donated US$100,000 to Guyana’s Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to assist with the agency’s response to the nationwide challenges brought on by the El Niño season.


The Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, spoke of the importance of cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation between the two countries.


Ambassador Haiyan said China is prepared to further deepen cooperation in disaster climate security, prevention, and poverty alleviation to enhance friendship.


The donation signifies a strengthened relationship between China and Guyana, showcasing the power of international collaboration in the face of climate-related challenges.

Director General of Guyana’s CDC, Nazrul Hussain, expressed his gratitude for the donation, which he said will go a long way in ensuring the most vulnerable communities’ benefit.


Water tanks, pumps, containers, dispensers, and fire extinguishers will be provided to address challenges identified during the CDC’s drought outreach programme.


China has always supported the Latin American and Caribbean region and continues to encourage shared experiences and practices in disaster management.


In 2021, the country hosted the Belt and Road International Cooperation Framework for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management.
