20th Chinese Medical Team arrives in Guyana

The 20th Chinese Medical Team, an elite group of 16 highly trained professional doctors, has arrived in Guyana.

The team is made up of doctors covering multiple medical fields such as nephrology, surgery, anaesthesia, traditional Chinese medicine, burn and plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, radiology, and pathology.

This dedicated team of specialists will be working alongside local staff across various departments for the next year at both the Georgetown and Linden Hospitals—Guyana's two main medical centres.

Each member has a solid foundation of medical theory and rich clinical practical experience and can skilfully use advanced medical technology and equipment to provide high-quality medical services for Guyanese.

Captain of the 20th Chinese medical team to Guyana, Dr. Du Boxiang, said he is full of expectations for the work his team will carry out in Guyana.

"We are happy to be in Guyana to work with the health professionals here and to share our knowledge and expertise. We are also eager to learn from the practice of the medical doctors here. We look forward to a productive stint and hope to forge stronger collaboration between China and Guyana, especially in the field of health and medicine," he told this publication.

He said over the years, the Chinese medical team in Guyana has always adhered to the spirit of humanitarianism and internationalism and contributed Chinese wisdom and strength to the development of Guyana's medical and health undertakings and the well-being of the people's health.

The last Chinese medical team worked closely with their counterparts in Guyana's healthcare system, providing care for close to 13,000 patients as well as almost 2,000 procedures and surgical advice. Over 3,400 people also benefitted from the team's 14 free medical outreaches across the country.

For more than thirty years, the Chinese medical team has served Guyana, helping to lift the quality of healthcare in the country and has also become a bridge of the friendship between China and Guyana.
