2024 Caribbean Cultural Experience event held in Beijing

The Embassies of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries in China (composed of embassies of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago) and the Haitian Trade Development Office in China successfully hosted the "2024 Caribbean Cultural Experience Event" on May 18, at HNA Marriott Hotel in Beijing.


The event was enthusiastically attended by representatives of the public, diplomatic missions, and the Chinese government. The audience shared a lively Caribbean cultural feast: food, music (Soca, Reggae, and drums), rum, coffee, and other drinks linked to the Caribbean region.

Cai Wei, Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese government at the opening ceremony.

In her opening speech, H.E. Liu Na, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and current head of the Mission of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in China, welcomed guests to the exhibition areas of various countries and highlighted the tourism characteristics of various countries:

  • Antigua and Barbuda has more than 365 beaches, where people can enjoy one beach a day!

  • The Bahamas has the famous "Jakanu Carnival"!

  • Barbados is the hometown of international superstar Rihanna and the world-famous Mount Gay Rum!

  • The island of Dominica is known as the "Isle of Nature"!

  • Grenada has an unforgettable underwater sculpture park!

  • Guyana's Amazon virgin forest is amazing, and the unique ecological tourism resources are an explorer's paradise!

  • Haiti is a country full of natural treasures, rich culture, and touching history!

  • Jamaica is the hometown of Bob Marley and reggae music!

  • Suriname is known as the "secret treasure of South America!"!

  • Trinidad and Tobago is the home of steel drums and has the largest carnival in the Caribbean.


The ambassador also expressed the hope that the guests can go to the Caribbean one day and experience everything for themselves!
